Tween Cuisine (Grades 5-7) In-Person

This 6-session series teaches basic cooking skills and healthy eating.  Kids will make a healthy snack at each class.  Classes are especially designed for 5th-7th graders.    Registration is required. Students should plan on attending all six sessions: June 5,12 19, & 26 and July 3 & 10.

Lessons include:  

• Eat Smart - Using MyPlate and practice basic cooking skills

• You Are What You Eat - Using Nutrition Fact Labels, and the importance of physical activity

• Power Up With Breakfast - Strategies for eating a healthy breakfast everyday, food safety, and muscle and bone-strengthening activities

• Find the Fat - Choose foods that are low in saturated fat and high in nutrients, Use the Go, Slow, Whoa method, and limiting screen time

• Watch Out for Added Sugar - Use Nutrition Fact Labels to recognize sources of added sugars, and make a plan to limit added sugars

• Snack Attack - Choose snacks that are nutrient-dense and low in added sugars, saturated fat, and sodium
